Summary
The role of Sergei Vasil’evich Iakovlev, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in establishing and developing water supply and wastewater disposal systems is considered. The developments and projects of the scientist have been implemented in many cities of our country. S. V. Iakovlev made a significant contribution to the development of the water industry. S. I. Yakovlev, was establishing and supporting international cooperation with water professionals from many countries, and had great authority among his foreign colleagues. The role of the scientist is also great in training young water professionals. He left behind many worthy students who inherited the helm of their teacher.

To the 90th anniversary of the founding of NII VODGEO

Theory and practice of the deferrization and demanganation technology: experience of the Republic of Belarus and Russian Federation (part 2)
Summary
The paper dwells upon the analysis of methods for removing iron and manganese from groundwater at water treatment facilities with the justification of each stage of the process flow scheme based on the physical and chemical process patterns. Information is presented on the factors effecting the composition of groundwater, on the theoretical foundations of the physical and chemical processes of deferrization and demanganation, and on the technology innovations. An estimation of the efficiency of the operating water treatment facilities in the Republic of Belarus and Russian Federation is given. The second part of the paper confined to the 150th anniversary of the Minskvodokanal Unitary Enterprise corroborates the cooperation of water utilities of the two neighboring states that have similar geochemical characteristics of the aquifers.

Directions for the development of the personnel training process for the water use engineering systems
Summary
The aspects of the personnel training system for water use engineering systems are considered. An analysis of the curricula structures in training professionals for the design, construction and operation of water engineering systems was carried out, on the basis of which approaches to improving the directions of training were presented. New promising directions for training specialists for the water supply and wastewater disposal sector are shown that provide for developing profiles that meet current industry requirements for practically oriented training of students for the operation of water management engineering systems to design the process technology and automation.

Improving and updating the regulatory and technical framework for the design, construction and operation of water supply and wastewater disposal systems
Summary
The paper discusses the aspects of updating and approaches to improving the regulatory and technical documents – Codes of Practice, State Standards, methodological instructive regulations, as well as the directions of their improvement to enhance the efficiency of design, construction and operation of water supply and wastewater disposal systems in Russian cities and communities. The development of a method for switching over the system of regulatory and technical documents to the parametric standardization is analyzed. It is demonstrated that in recent years, the Russian construction sector has set a course for revising and updating the regulatory framework in the field of design and construction, thus reducing the statutory requirements in the Codes of Practice. It is noted that the planned transition from the prescriptive regulation system to a parametric one with specified quality criteria for the finished product is aimed at the development of the quality criteria for the finished project or product using any alternative approaches and methods, transferring a significant part of building codes and regulations to the voluntary category. Evidently, such amendments to the regulatory framework require a very detailed scientific and practical justification.

Tools for accelerating the design and calculation processes of polymer pipeline systems
Summary
The latest developments made by POLYPLASTIC Group for the agile design, calculation and selection of polymer pipes and structures for water supply and sewer networks are considered. Among them are albums of standard design solutions that present documents containing multiple-use ready-made standard design solutions that the designer can include in the design documentation without significant changes. New mobile applications are presented that simplify the calculation and design of polymer pipeline systems providing for quick selection of pipes and acquisition of the solutions required for the project development.

Membrane separation of multicomponent aqueous solutions
Summary
A method of reagent-membrane separation for extracting target components from multicomponent aqueous mixtures is presented. The process includes the formation of complexes of target components with associated additives and subsequent membrane separation of the modified mixture. The universalism of the method is substantiated due to the variety of properties of the selected associating additives. The importance of optimizing the process parameters, such as pore size and hydrophilicity of the membrane material, is noted. Experiments confirm the long service life of the membranes, as well as the positive effect of ultrasonic and infrared irradiation on the stabilization of the resulting colloidal systems. The method demonstrates possible deep concentration of the modified mixture with a high specific membrane productivity. The method was used to soften methanol-water solutions of gas production; the advantages of reagent-membrane separation over traditional softening methods in efficiency and economic feasibility were demonstrated.

Ways to reduce fouling of separation membranes and increase the performance of membrane apparatus (a review)
Summary
The widespread use of membrane technologies in the energy sector in water purification processes, wastewater treatment and other areas poses questions of their improvement in order to increase the economic efficiency, performance of membrane separation apparatus, reduce the amount of secondary waste, etc. Potentials are being sought to improve these indicators. Moreover, if the highest level has currently been reached in the development and production of membranes, and no further dramatic improvements are visible so far, then in relation to the design it is believed that there are still potentials. The paper discusses options for increasing the efficiency of membrane separation apparatus by means of the external effects on the processed water or on the membrane apparatus. This is the pulsation of the liquid flow, ultrasonic impact on it, rotation of special inserts or the membranes themselves, vibrations of the membrane element. The complexity of their design and the prospects of application for different stages of purification and concentration processes are estimated.
