The experience of introducing DYСLAR dynamic clarification technology in natural and wastewater treatment
Summary
The experience of introducing innovative home dynamic clarification technology on the basis of dynamic clarifiers and dynamic clarifying filters in natural and wastewater treatment is described. The technology and relative equipment have been developed by the specialists of «Integrated Water Technologies» Company (Moscow). The principle of the dynamic clarifier operation is based on the technology of contact coagulation in a pressure filter with floating media. The specific feature of the dynamic clarifier is the availability of improved upper and lower drain-distributing devices and also granulated INERT media manufactured on the basis of polymer materials and characterized by high mechanical strength and, consequently, long lifetime. By the example of the Novokuznetsk aluminum smelter the results of industrial and storm wastewater treatment with the use of clarified effluent in the in-plant recirculation system are presented. By the example of a petrochemical plant (Pavlodar city, Kazakhstan) the experience of introducing a dynamic clarifying filter that combines in one apparatus the functions of a dynamic clarifier and a mechanical filter with heavy granular media is described. The advantages of using aluminium polyoxychloride as a coagulant compared with aluminium sulfate for DYСLAR technology are presented. The experience of introducing the given technology of water clarification confirms its undeniable advantages compared to the foreign prototypes and allows designating it as best available technologies.

Flotation treatment of phenolic wastewater in a biochemical unit of the coke and by-product process
Summary
In 2014 the construction of a unique unit for biochemical treatment of wastewater from coke and by-product process at the «Novolipetsk Steelworks» OJSC was finished. EKOTON flotation units used in the process of removing tar and oils from the recycling phenol wastewater have been specially designed for the application in this industry and provide for 97.5% treatment level in relation to the main parameters. The results of the laboratory studies and full-scale tests of phenolic coke wastewater treatment by chemical dissolved air flotation are presented. The specialists of «EKOTON» Company have selected the parameters of the process equipment and improved the design of the flotation unit; determined the main parameters of physical-and chemical treatment of phenolic wastewater with due account for the wastewater composition, high temperature, limits of the tar and oil concentrations in the mixtures discharged from the flotation unit. The experimental data allowed developing the regulations for operating flotation units for coke and by-product process with the use of chemical treatment of phenolic wastewater. The novelty and singularity of the treatment processes introduced at the wastewater treatment facilities of «NMLK» OJSC provided for installing the completely sealed utilities and tanks above the ground to eliminate any possible underground water pollution and reduce air emissions. In 2015 after industrial-scale testing «EKOTON» flotation unit was commissioned as a part of the biochemical unit of the coke and by-product process.

Prospects of surface runoff disposal and treatment in St. Petersburg
Summary
St. Petersrburg is the biggest megacity on the Baltic Sea, with well-developed industrial and transportation infrastructure. The scale of the city determines the level of the responsibility for the Baltic Sea state before the international community – participants in the Helsinki Convention. By the present moment a list of activities has been developed that includes rearranging direct outfalls and eliminating direct discharges of raw sewage into the water bodies; the process solutions on combined and domestic wastewater treatment to the required effluent quality standards have been studied in detail. The system of accounting the level of precipitation and calculating the amount of surface runoff on the basis of this data is described. The information on the automated network of accounting the atmospheric precipitation and on the automated system to control this network is presented. The method of calculating surface runoff amount has been updated; the sanitation areas are being specified according to the digital territory plan. The studies of the surface runoff seasonal quality fluctuations are carried out; the classification of the territories according to the pollution type has been introduced. The surface runoff treatment facilities with the use of different process flow schemes are described.

WAMGROUP® Company – 10 years in Russia
Summary
WAMGROUP® Italian Company has been among world leaders in developing and manufacturing equipment for mechanical treatment of wastewater. The specialists of the company offer a number of innovative solutions that meet the specific demands of the companies designing water wastewater treatment facilities. The information on the implemented project of wastewater treatment facilities in Bokino village of the Tambov Region in the Tambov Area with the use of GCP mechanized screw screens is presented. The process line consists of several wastewater treatment stages including mechanical (removal of coarse litter and sand), biological (removal of organics and nutrients), and several stages of tertiary treatment, sedimentation and filtration. At the final stage of the process line the effluent is UV disinfected and discharged into the Tsna River. Commissioning the newly built wastewater treatment facilities provided for improving the living conditions for the residents, the ecological state of the Tsna River which is the main waterway in the Tambov Area, and the safety and quality of the beaches in the city of Tambov.

Sustainable biosolids management: a review of best available technologies for sludge stabilisation and volume reduction
Summary
Australian water utilities face a significant challenge in moving towards more sustainable biosolids management. There is increasing pressure to move away from the traditional approach of land application of dewatered biosolids due to escalating transport costs, community impacts such as odour and truck movements, and the risk of changing regulation or public perception affecting the future viability of land application. Different sludge treatments have been compared regarding performances, opex and carbon foot print for 2 case studies: Australian Inland and Coastal WWTP. Results have shown that thermal sludge treatments, especially Wet Air Oxidation which is now a proven technology, are highly competitive compared to conventional sludge treatments particularly when sludge disposal costs are high.

Improvement of the integrity and seismic resistance of gravity sewers
Summary
The problems of improving the integrity and seismic resistance of wastewater disposal systems have been urgent and must be solved in the process of designing prospective plans of territorial and urban development as well as investment programs of public utilities. The procedure of wastewater system structure optimization based on developing redundant layout and searching the maximum flow of the minimum weight function (minimum cost, maximum integrity and seismic resistance) is suggested. Redundant layout is developed by overlapping the predesigned sewer routes. The integrity is evaluated by the quantitative index – raw sewage amount that is generated for the certain time period as a result of an accident and pipeline rehabilitation time. Seismic resistance is taken into consideration by increasing failure rate depending on the earthquake intensity and orientation of the seismic impact. The suggested procedure takes into account seismic impacts by increasing the length of the designed sections of the redundant sewer layout. It is shown that construction of subsidiary and loop sewers improves significantly the integrity and seismic resistance of sewers.
