Influence of Tear-and-Wear of Vertical Pumps on Reliability, Safety and Power Consumption of Sewerage Pumping Stations
Summary
Results of the study of influence of tear-and-wear of vertical pumps on reliability, safety and power consumption of sewerage pumping stations on the example of the Main pumping station of the Central aeration station of St. Petersburg are presented. Principal points of the methods of calculation of reliability of pumping stations operation are expounded. The methodology formalized with the use of programs for a computer can be applied for concrete calculations of reliability of such pumping stations. The safety of a wastewater disposal system, conditions of urban human environment, ground water, water basins, and profitability of the SUE St. Petersburg Vodokanal’s enterprises depend on reliability of operation of stations with a designed discharge rate of up to 1,5 mill. m3/day.

On the Substantiation of Natural Water Disinfection Methods
Summary
Substantiation of the natural water disinfection method is necessary for assessment of great number of factors (qualitative composition of water, disinfectants properties and characteristics of technical disinfection means et al. and execution of preliminary technological tests for selection of a disinfectant meeting the following requirements: durable antimicrobial action, safety for human beings and animals, absence of generation of accompanying ballast salts, transformable organic substances, treehalogenmethane, economic advantage. Results of the comparative studies of efficiency of different disinfectants for reagent treatment of the Don and Tom rivers’ water at an experimental stands of 1–1,5 m3/hr capacity are presented.

Physico-Chemical Composition of Surface Runoff in the Cities of Tolyatti and Samara
Summary
Investigations of physico-chemical composition of surface runoff from urban land show that this runoff is heavily polluted. Average annual concentrations of pollutants in the surface runoff of Tolyatti and Samara are given together with the dynamics of pollution concentration fluctuations in the storm water and melt runoff from the residential territory of Avtozavodsk district in Tolyatti. The environmental requirements set for the water area of the Volga River for many pollutants are even more stringent compared to the standards set for fishery water bodies in EU countries. Municipal enterprises have no economic opportunity to meet these requirements. This fact is responsible for freezing building of new surface runoff treatment facilities.

Storm Sewer Development in Baku
Summary
Basing on the results of theoretical and experimental investigations a process scheme providing for chemical free treatment of polluted storm water in a compact float-filter placed in a circular settler is proposed. As may be required tertiary treatment by filtration through inert media is applied. The recommended technology can be applied in developing the Master Plan of surface runoff removal and treatment in the city of Baku. The technology provides for integrated treatment of storm water with pollution concentration reduction to the set limits. The effluent can be reused as process water for industrial enterprises, auto washing, street washing and irrigation of planted land.

Innovation Technology of Wastewater Sludge Dewatering at Sludge Beds
Summary
The technology of highly effective dewatering of wastewater sludge at sludge beds using the principally new flocculant «Сибфлок®» on the basis of polyethylene oxide and special facilities – wells for sludge water disposal is described. This technology has been tested at more than ten Vodokanals of Russia and Kazakhstan at facilities of 150–700 000 m3/day of wastewater capacity under the different climatic conditions. Sludge dewatering using the new technology makes it possible to obtain the sludge with moisture content of 70–75% and after predrying in a summer period – with moisture content of 40–60%. The technology is unified and can be easily included practically in any flow charts. Additional equipping of sludge beds needs minimal expenses. The sludge dewatered at sludge beds using the flocculant «Сибфлок®» get the properties inherent to natural soils, lend itself well to composting and other types of processing.

Experience in Introduction of Up-to-Date Technologies and Methods of Wastewater Sludge Treatment
Summary
New up-to-date technologies are needed for the solution of problems of utilization of sludge generated in the course of wastewater treatment. In St. Petersburg before the introduction of a burning technology the whole sludge preliminary dewatered at centrifuges was stored at special landfills. During the last fourteen years the whole quantity of sludge from the city’s sewerage treatment facilities is burnt. However the sludge accumulated at landfills during preceding years continues to influence negatively on environment. To eliminate this influence it was decided to process the sludge stored at landfills. With that end in view the advanced technology of sludge geotube dewatering has been chosen. Since the summer of 2009 the industrial application of this technology began at the Northern landfill.
