Extraction of heavy metal ions from municipal effluent after biological treatment
Summary
The results of investigating the extraction of heavy metal ions from the municipal effluent after biological treatment with the use zeolites (clinoptilolite and Glint granulated sorbent) are presented. The zeolite sorption capacity under static and dynamic conditions was investigated. It was shown that only the use of clinoptilolite provided for the elimination of heavy metals to meet the standards for fishery water bodies. A procedure of designing filters with clinoptilolite for the removal of metals from municipal effluent after biological treatment was developed.

Justification of unaccounted-for water in water supply and wastewater management systems
Summary
In contexts of the public utilities reform the issues of justification and introduction of norms for unaccounted-for water in water supply and wastewater management systems become of special importance. Advanced approaches to the evaluation and norming of these values based on monitoring and analysis of unaccounted-for water in public water and wastewater systems of the Far East cities are suggested. The procedure of assessing unaccounted-for water in a wastewater disposal system was developed. An objective appraisal of this value will provide for economic justification of water and wastewater tariffs, task-oriented promotion of resources conservation by the public utilities and upholding the interests of water and wastewater companies (vodokanals) at the environmental authorities when establishing the limits on water abstraction from water sources and effluent discharge.

Introduction and development of managements systems at the Khabarovsk MUE «Vodocanal»
Summary
Different steps of introducing the quality management system at Khabarovsk Vodokanal are presented. Reliability and economic efficiency of the production processes are the key targets of the quality management system development. In the process of developing the occupational safety management system possible integration of the system into the quality management system was investigated. The administration of the Khabarovsk MUE «Vodocanal» is considering the management systems as a basis for the future introduction of the environmental management system according to ISO 14001 and further incorporation into the corporate integrated management system.

Developing information technologies at the Khabarovsk MUE «Vodocanal»
Summary
Automation and centralization of control over the facilities of Khabarovsk Vodokanal have been carried out since 1991. At present 38 sewage and 40 water pumping stations are working in fully automatic mode. At the Municipal water treatment facilities and Tungus ground water facilities the systems of process automation and visualization were introduced. An automated water quality biomonitoring system is in operation. An automated system of commercial energy accounting is being designed. The existing information systems are continuously improved with the introduction of advanced software. A most critical task for the nearest future is establishing a corporate information management system.
