The impact of the Simferopol wastewater treatment system on the chemical and physico-chemical parameters of the Salgir River water

Summary

Based on the analysis of the impact of the Simferopol wastewater treatment system on the changes in the chemical and physico-chemical parameters of the Salgir River water, possible diverting a part of the water source flow to ensure sustainable water supply has been demonstrated. As a result of the failure at the Kakhovka Reservoir hydraulic structure, supplying water from the Dnieper by gravity is currently impossible. Therefore, a comprehensive feasibility study is needed to use the Mezhgornoe off-river storage reservoir by diverting a part of the Salgir River flow. The carried-out analysis showed that generally the efficiency of the Simferopol wastewater treatment system is satisfactory. Considering the high pollution level of the river upstream the effluent discharge point some slight pollution in terms of suspended solids and total iron (COD) caused by the effluent discharge was detected. The Simferopol wastewater treatment system produces a negative impact on the water quality of the Salgir River in terms of the ammonium and nitrite ion levels. The carried-out analysis forms the basis for a feasibility study for design solutions on using the Mezhgornoe storage reservoir for water supply by diverting a part of the Salgir River flow.

Surface runoff pollution of water bodies

Summary

The results of studying the water of the Kondurcha River in the Samara Area and surface runoff from one of the railway stations are presented. The comparative analysis of the results of studying water samples from the water body in the monitoring section is given. The prediction of water quality changes in the water body for the next several years in relation to the following pollutants: BODfull, suspended solids, oil products and total iron is presented. The trend of the growing negative impact of polluted surface runoff from the surroundings of railway objects on water sources persists owing to the growth of cargo tonnage; the concentrations of pollutants in the water bodies are increasing.

Measures to supply Samara Urban District with drinking water from surface and underground water sources in accordance with 2.1.3684-21 and 1.2.3685-21 Sanitary Rules and Regulations

Summary

In accordance with the Resolution of the Chief Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation dated January 28, 2021 No. 3, new sanitary rules and regulations have been approved and in force in the Russian Federation from March 1, 2021, requiring a more stringent approach to the quality of purified water: SanPiN 2.1.3684-21 «Sanitary and epidemiological requirements to the maintenance of the territories of urban and rural communities, to water bodies, drinking water and drinking water supply, atmospheric air, soil, residential premises, operation of industrial and public premises, arrangement and implementation of sanitary and antiepidemic (preventive) measures» and SanPiN 1.2.3685-21 «Hygienic standards and requirements to ensure the safety and (or) harmlessness of environmental factors to humans». In this regard, the specialists of Samara Utility Systems LLC are carrying out a comprehensive upgrade and reconstruction of the water supply and wastewater disposal systems in Samara with the purpose of improving integrally the qualitative and quantitative performance of the systems. Measures have been developed for the reconstruction and modernization of water treatment facilities to provide for the concentration of residual aluminum and chloroform meeting the sanitary standards. The implementation of the activities is planned for the period from 2024 to 2041.
